A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Usman Sule, has joined the global community to celebrate women across the world, particularly female legal practitioners, as activities mark the International Women’s Day.

In a goodwill message yesterday, Sule commended the resilience, excellence and growing impact of women in the legal profession and other sectors of society, describing them as “indispensable pillars of justice, development and social progress.”

International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, is a global event dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements while also advocating gender equality and the protection of women’s rights worldwide.

The senior lawyer noted that female lawyers in Nigeria and across the world have continued to distinguish themselves through dedication, integrity and professional competence, despite the challenges often associated with balancing career demands and societal expectations.

According to him, the legal profession has witnessed remarkable contributions from women who continue to break barriers and inspire younger generations to pursue careers in law.

“On this special day, I celebrate the courage, strength and achievements of women everywhere. I particularly commend female lawyers who have continued to uphold the principles of justice, fairness and the rule of law in our courts and institutions,” Sule said.

He emphasised that the increasing presence of women in leadership roles within the legal profession, judiciary and corporate organisations demonstrates the progress being made toward gender equality.

Sule also extended his tribute to women making impacts beyond the legal field, including those in sports, governance, business and humanitarian services.

He specifically acknowledged the role of women in international sports administration and development, highlighting efforts within organisations such as FIFA, which has continued to promote women’s participation and leadership in global football.

The SAN stressed that recognising women’s achievements should go beyond annual celebrations, urging governments, institutions and professional bodies to create more opportunities for women to thrive.

“Celebrating women must go hand in hand with deliberate policies that empower them, protect their rights and ensure equal opportunities in all sectors,” he added.

He further called on the younger generation of women to remain focused and determined in the pursuit of their aspirations, noting that perseverance and excellence remain key to overcoming systemic barriers.

Sule therefore encouraged the society to continue supporting initiatives that promote women’s advancement, describing their contributions as vital to building a more inclusive and prosperous world
