Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro has formally declared his intention to contest for the Senate seat representing Kogi Central senatorial district on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The decision follows extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and respected community figures across the senatorial district as part of strategic preparations toward the party’s primary election.

In a statement on Saturday, Chief Obaro expressed deep appreciation to APC leaders and supporters for their confidence in his leadership, noting that the consultations were necessary to keep stakeholders fully informed of his aspiration and to strengthen unity ahead of the electoral process.

“I made this decision after due consultations with family members, APC stakeholders, and respected leaders across Kogi Central. There is a need for representation with the capacity to deliver meaningful and lasting impact in the senatorial district.

“Our people will benefit more from purposeful leadership, inclusive development, and people-focused representation when entrusted with this mandate, Insha’Allah,” he said.

His declaration has further energized supporters and members of the movement, reinforcing the collective belief that the journey ahead is not merely a campaign but a coordinated effort built on unity, organization, and a shared vision for the progress of Kogi Central.

At a recent stakeholders’ meeting, key issues affecting the district were discussed extensively. Notable contributions were presented by Elder Andrew Enebe (Andy) and Hon. Siyaka Kokori Abdul, who delivered feedback reports from grassroots engagements.

Political leaders from Okehi Local Government Area, Adavi Local Government Area, Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area and Ajaokuta Local Government Area expressed strong support for Chief Obaro’s aspiration, emphasizing equity, justice, and balanced representation.

Many stakeholders noted that it is the turn of Okehi to produce the senatorial candidate and urged the party to present a broadly acceptable flag bearer.

They cautioned against a repeat of the 2023 outcome, when Sadiku Ohere emerged as the party’s candidate from Okene, a development many believe weakened the party’s chances against the incumbent Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Stakeholders further stressed that the APC-led government in Kogi Central should not create a situation where party members feel marginalized within their own party. They emphasized that the forthcoming senatorial election transcends party lines and must be approached with sensitivity to fairness, unity, and strategic inclusiveness.
