Dr. Myles Munroe, of blessed memory, gave a simple definition of leadership thus: leadership includes the capacity to influence, inspire, rally, direct, encourage, motivate, induce, move, mobilize, and activate others to pursue a common goal or purpose while maintaining commitment, momentum, and courage.

Hon. Salman Idris fits this definition perfectly.

This article seeks to explore and juxtapose Hon. Salman as a man of unquestionable character and integrity, a man of purpose and passion for his constituents, state and nation at large given the path he has chosen towards delivering quality and representative leadership to the highly versatile people of Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu with the hope to convince the average Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu people that Hon. Salman deserves a second term in office as member representing Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu in the National Assembly assembly.

Salman Idris is a household name that requires no introduction in the realm of Nigerian politics.

His professionalism, performance, integrity, patriotism, and commitment to carrying out his legislative duties are exemplary.

This has been applauded over time by his constituents, distinguished colleagues across different political leanings, and party stakeholders within and outside Kogi State.

The man, Salman Idris has become a study, to both admirers and non-admirers was elected on a manifesto that captures three cardinal points and policies;

† Lawmaking
† Security
† Empowerment

One of the cardinal parameters put in place by political pundits and critics, to ascertain the performance of lawmakers is not limited to —

(i) the number of bills sponsored

(ii) constituency projects

(iii) oversight functions

This article intends to analyse the performance of Hon. Salman Idris using these parameters vis-à-vis his manifesto since resuming legislating in the 10th Assembly.

Lawmaking: Hon. Salman has bills to his credit which makes him one of the top performers in the 10th Assembly with one of the highest numbers of bills sponsored.

The distinguished Hon. has also co- sponsored numerous bills and whoever doubts should surf the internet and get the facts for clarification.

This remarkable record by the Rep. makes it evident beyond a reasonable doubt that he is committed, loyal, and competent for the job he has been mandated to do, which is why the people of Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu must as a matter of societal progress and development give him another nod to continue the good work he has started.

Security The primary objective of every government is the protection of lives and property, and in doing so, the three tiers of government have been tasked with responsibilities in seeing that this is achieved.

However, the President and Commander – in – Chief have the final say.

In fulfilling his mandate, Hon. Salman Idris has not relented in his efforts to lobby and speak up for the improvement and tightening of security within his constituency and the nation at large.

Empowerment: Hon. Salman has adopted the pattern of not only giving his constituents fish but also teaching them how to catch one.

Recently, the distinguished Hon. organised a one – day security training for over 100 constituents and supported them with #100, 000 each financial assistance for all the participants.

He stressed at the closing event that he would not allow poverty and insecurity to completely overwhelm the people he represents.

He has also distributed Grinding machines, sewing machines, Deep freezers, motorcycles, generators etc to over 500 women and youths, and other constituents in Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu as a deliberate step to engage the women in meaningful and viable economic activities thereby expanding their capacity to generate household income.

He has also embarked on massive empowerment for women, youths, and vulnerable individuals.

Youth unemployment has been a recurring dilemma in society. Hon. Salman has been involved in several employment generation programs for his constituents in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government and recruitment into the Police, Armed forces, and para-military establishments.

Without a doubt, there is room for more work to be done, which is why it is pertinent that Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu constituents across all political divides mobilize and support Hon. Salman Idris in the forthcoming 2027 general election for another four (4) years of trailblazing representation.
