A foremost political group in Kogi State, Kogi APC Renaissance Forum, has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s fight against corruption and corrupt persons in Nigeria.

The forum, in a statement by its spokesperson, Adejo Emmanuel, stated that the recent onslaught against corruption by the Tinubu’s administration is not targeted at members of opposition parties alone as members of the APC are also being prosecuted.

“A good example is that of former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello who is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on cases bordering on diversion and misappropriation of Kogi State funds and a 16 count fraud charge to the tune of N80.2bn and a N110 billion respectively amongst other party stalwarts.

“Corruption is an integral governance challenge with broader impact on democracy, electoral integrity, social cohesion and economic growth. It is the altar upon which economic and social development are slaughtered.

“Nigeria’s corruption trajectory shows endemic, systemic graft deeply embedded in governance, undermining development despite numerous anti-corruption efforts in time past.

“The nature and character of corruption in Nigeria, driven by politically exposed persons (PEPs) requires a much more drastic and robust approach,” he said.

The Forum said President Tinubu has demonstrated unwavering commitment to overcoming the challenge of corruption in Nigeria by masterfully demonstrating his ability to differentiate clearly between partisan politics and governance. Corruption must be recompensed through appropriate punishment and diligent prosecution is the key in this regards.

“The fight against corruption in Nigeria requires a paradigm shift and bolder actions to effectively address its deep- rooted and multifaceted nature.”

The forum appealed to all well meaning Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed fight against corruption in Nigeria advising that those who engage in rapacious corruption should desist forthwith else risk serving jail terms.
