The Kogi East Youth CAN (YOWICAN), the youth arm of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has strongly condemned the recent increase in insecurity across Nigeria, particularly the disturbing attacks on churches, schools, and other vulnerable places.

These persistent assaults on innocent citizens are unacceptable and must be addressed with urgency and sincerity.

In a statement issued at the end of an emergency meeting held in Anyigba on Tuesday, YOWICAN reminded both the Federal and Kogi state government that the primary responsibility of every government is the protection of lives and property.

The emergency meeting was convened to deliberate on the worsening security situation in Nigeria and, most importantly, in Kogi East.

“We call on the government at all levels to rise to this responsibility without delay.

“We further call on all security agencies to rise up to their constitutional duties and intensify efforts to defend our communities. Nigerians deserve to feel safe in their homes, places of worship, schools, and workplaces,” the statement read.

YOWINCAN also called on all Christians across Nigeria, in Kogi State, and especially among the Kogi East youth, to remain steadfast in faith, vigilant, and united during this challenging time.

“While we encourage all young people to remain law-abiding citizens, we also urge them to be alert, courageous, and prepared to defend their communities and territories within the boundaries of the law. The security of our land is a collective responsibility.

“Finally, we call on all youth and Christians to wake up, pray more fervently, and seek divine intervention for peace, protection, and restoration across Nigeria. Prayer remains our greatest spiritual weapon, and we must use it continually.”
