Political leaders and stakeholders from Mopamuro Local Government Area have once again reaffirmed their firm stance that the House of Representatives seat for Yagba Federal Constituency must return to Mopamuro in 2027, describing the position as “non-negotiable and backed by history, equity, and justice.”

The leaders, under the aegis of the Mopamuro Political Elders Forum, restated their commitment to the long-standing rotational arrangement among the three local governments, Mopamuro, Yagba East, and Yagba West, which has guided power-sharing since 1999.

In a renewed statement released over the weekend, the forum maintained that Mopamuro had only enjoyed a single four-year term in the House of Representatives since the return of democracy, while Yagba East and Yagba West have each had 12 years of representation. The group stated that any attempt to alter this established pattern would amount to political injustice and a provocation capable of straining the unity of Yagba land.

“We stand by our earlier communiqué. Mopamuro’s turn in 2027 is not subject to negotiation or manipulation,” the statement declared. “Equity, fairness, and the spirit of brotherhood among Yagba people must continue to guide our political decisions.”

The leaders reaffirmed their unalloyed loyalty and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his reform-driven leadership and courage in repositioning Nigeria’s economy. They described President Tinubu as “a visionary democrat whose continuity in 2027 will further consolidate the gains of renewed hope.”

“As loyal party men and committed progressives, we are firmly behind the President and his administration,” the statement read. “We believe that a second term for President Tinubu will deepen the national transformation agenda and strengthen the APC at all levels.”

While urging all aspirants and stakeholders across Yagba Federal Constituency to respect the zoning arrangement, the Mopamuro leaders appealed for continued peace and political maturity in the build-up to the 2027 elections.

They noted that their renewed declaration was prompted by “growing misinformation and subtle campaigns” suggesting a possible extension of the current representative’s tenure, a move they warned would “not only disrupt the balance of representation but also marginalize Mopamuro beyond acceptable limits.”

“We are peaceful people, but not docile,” the statement stressed. “We have been patient, cooperative, and supportive of other zones when it was their turn. 2027 belongs to Mopamuro, and that decision stands firm.”

The forum’s position was jointly endorsed by prominent figures including former Deputy Governors, former lawmakers, party stalwarts, and respected community leaders, among them:
H.E. Chief Samuel Ola Akande, H.E. Chief Clarence Olufemi, H.E. Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, Commodore Folusho Daniel (Rtd.), Chief Folorunsho Daniyan, Dr. (Chief) Alex Ayodele John (Delex), Brig. Gen. Benjamin Ipinyomi (Rtd.), Engr. (Chief) Edward Meseko, Prince Folorunsho Olafemi, Ph.D., Pastor Babagbemi Adejola, Chief Makinde Oyebode, Hon. Jesse Abayomi Oloke, and Chief Henry Abimbola.

Reiterating their commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the leaders called on the party leadership at the state and national levels to uphold the spirit of fairness and reward loyalty in the selection of candidates for the 2027 election.

They concluded with a unified declaration:
“We remain committed to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the progressive ideals of our great party, the APC. We shall continue to work for peace, unity, and justice, but we will also stand firm to ensure that in 2027, Mopamuro takes its rightful turn.”
