The Descent of Former Office Holders Into Irrelevance

In politics, credibility is the most valuable currency. When a politician’s words lose their weight, his speeches inevitably fade into background noise. This unfortunate descent into irrelevance has now consumed some former office holders whose desperate tirades against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration are met with skepticism and ridicule.

It is ironic and indeed tragic that someone who once rode on the political waves that brought President Tinubu to office now seeks to undermine him.

Yesterday, he hailed Asiwaju’s foresight and courage when it suited his ambitions. Today, he pretends to be a moral compass, spewing bitterness and betrayal. Nigerians have not forgotten his words of admiration, and the stark contradiction between his past praises and present attacks exposes his hypocrisy.

His accusations, heavy with manufactured lies and venom, cannot resonate with Nigerians who are focused on nation building under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The citizens see real progress: sweeping economic reforms, subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, massive infrastructure renewal, revival of the steel sector, and agricultural transformation. While the detractor clings to relevance through noise, President Tinubu is busy writing history through action.

Nigerians are discerning the difference between sincere leadership and the desperate clamor of political has-beens. They know the voice of a builder from the rants of a bitter man.

The Yoruba say, Àgbà tó bá kùnà, kì í ṣe pé àgbàdá ò bá mu, ìwà ló bà á jẹ́” when an elder falls into disgrace, it is not for lack of attire but for lack of character.

The tragic spectacle of a once-respected figure reduced to irrelevance should serve as a cautionary tale, in politics, betrayal of truth and opportunism always lead to political extinction. Nigerians have spoken they will not be swayed by the ramblings of men whose time has passed.

Looking ahead to 2027, there is a palpable optimism that President Tinubu will secure a renewal of his mandate, not on sentiment, but on the basis of reforms that are reshaping Nigeria’s economic and political destiny. Those who choose irrelevance may scream, but Nigerians will choose progress.
