In the past few weeks, we have observed, with a mix of concern and disdain, a coordinated smear campaign targeting the person and office of the Accountant General of Kogi State, Dr. Habiba Onumoko. This campaign, laced with bitterness and driven by envy, is clearly being orchestrated by political opportunists and their hirelings , the very same individuals whose years of disservice as appointees nearly sank the moral standing of our state and party.
Let it be made abundantly clear: Dr. Habiba Onumoko is not the problem, she is the solution they fear. She represents a refreshing departure from the impunity and entitlement of the past. Her commitment to accountability, financial prudence, and institutional integrity has sent tremors through the spines of those who once fed fat on the commonwealth of the people without consequence.
This is why they are unsettled.
Dr. Onumoko’s loyalty to the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is not in doubt. She has, through diligence and professionalism, demonstrated unwavering support for the New Direction of this government. Her efficiency is not only giving a good name to the administration but is also redefining the meaning of public service in our state. Unlike those who squandered their opportunities and left the people with broken promises and broken systems, Dr. Onumoko is working tirelessly to restore confidence in governance.
The fear she inspires in her detractors stems from one thing: performance. In a system where mediocrity was once celebrated, excellence has become a threat. Those who failed to perform when given a chance are now threatened by the emergence of competent hands committed to lifting the civil service and transforming the finance architecture of the state.
Her consistent engagement with grassroots stakeholders, especially party loyalists and civil servants , has exposed the emptiness of those who now resort to social media propaganda to stay relevant. Dr. Onumoko, though a technocrat, is no stranger to politics. She has always been a political asset , principled, grounded, and connected. Her refusal to turn her back on the supporters of the Governor simply because she holds a technocratic position is what differentiates her from the fair-weather power mongers of the past.
Those hiding behind pseudo writers and anonymous social media accounts should know this: they are known. Their connection to some failed politicians in the Central is common knowledge. If this smear campaign continues, the Kogi Accountability Group will not hesitate to name and expose every sponsor and beneficiary of this campaign of blackmail.
You do not break a woman by throwing stones at her , especially not one built in the fires of experience and loyalty. Dr. Habiba Onumoko is not just a civil servant; she is a symbol of reform, a standard-bearer for excellence, and a voice for accountability.
The civil servants whose welfare she has prioritized know this. The Governor, who sees her tireless service, knows this. And most importantly, the people know this.
Let it be known to all: the era of waste is over. A new Kogi is rising , one built on merit, transparency, and loyalty. Dr. Onumoko is helping to build it. And no amount of coordinated blackmail will stop her.
