A 50 yr-old petty trader, Mrs Mary Jekeli Edibo has been hacked to death by yet-to-be-identified assailants while returning from Agabifo village to her home, Agbenema in Omala Local government area of Kogi State.

The police confirmed on Monday that the deceased, who was said to have returned from a local market earlier in the day, went to see her customers in the neighbouring village and was returning when she met her death.

According to State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP William Aya, the deceased brother, one Mr Abdul of Agbenema community reported the matter at Omala Division the following day.

He said when the police team went to the scene of the incident, they discovered that she sustained deep cuts on her head and part of the face.

“Our men took the photograph of the scene and were to take the remains for a post mortem examination but the family declined,” he explained.

Aya confirmed that officers of the command have mounted surveillance around the area as manhunt continues for the suspects.

However, a source in the community told our reporter that the slain petty trader was hacked to death by herdsmen who has been unleashing mayhem on people around the community.

“This incident actually took place last week Thursday when she was returning to Agbenema from Agabifo village. Her death has caused much fear in the community and surrounding towns. Some days ago, Amodu Ucha was macheted on his way to farm in another nearby community, Ajodoma. My people are living in fear and there is much tension at the moment,” he said.
