Association of Nigerian Women in Sports (NAWIS), Kogi state chapter, has honoured the senatorial candidate of Accord (A) party, Bashorun Moses Deola Eseyin with its prestigious pearl award.
The award, in recognition of Eseyin’s selfless support for girl child education and sports in Kogi State, was conferred on him at the 30 years anniversary ceremony of NAWIS.
Speaking on the topic “policy and politics of women sport and women in sport, challenges and way forward” Bashorun MD Eseyin decried the lack of support for female sports.
Represented by Olowu Emmanuel, the senatorial candidate noted that “female sport has been discouraged by the government and has not been given enough coverage and funding when compared to the male category.”
He explained that one of the challenges associated with female in sports is fewer role models.
“Girls have a shortage of successful athletes they can point to as examples of female sport achievement,” he said.
Eseyin implored the government to channel proper funding towards the female sport like that of the male and also encourage parent to allow girls child participate in athletics as they have better opportunities in sports.
