3 Fulani Herdsmen Nabbed Over Murder of Colleagues in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has appre­hended three Fulani herdsmen for gruesome kill­ing of two colleagues and burial of same in the bush for allegedly stealing cows.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Paul Okafor, who disclosed this yesterday while parading 15 suspected criminals for var­ious offences ranging from culpable homicide, con­spiracy and armed robbery, possession illegal firearms, stated that the command would not allow criminals to make the state their ha­ven.

Okafor explained that the three suspects had earlier lured their victims to a near­by bush and killed them qui­etly and disappeared in to thin air, while the family of deceased became apprehen­sive of the whereabouts of their love ones.

He pointed out that after committing the culpable homicide, the suspects re­fused to return to the Fu­lani Camp at Zango Daji, the outskirts of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital for several months now.

He added that the inci­dent was reported to the Area Police command then and have looking been for­ward to that the missing herdsmen would return home, but alas they never returned home as the assail­ants took to their heels.

The Commissioner of Police pointed out that luck however ran out against the suspected killers when one of them reappeared in the camp suddenly and a good Samaritan was said to have informed the mother of one of the deceased who rushed to the nearby police station to effect the arrest immedi­ately.

He stated that the arrest led to uncovering of the others’ hideout and subse­quently were arrested and confessed that they were responsible for the killings because the deceased were alleged to have stolen cows.

The Police boss noted that after their confessional statement, they led a team of police and doctor to the bush where the deceased were buried, adding that the two bodies were exhumed while autopsy was carried out.

Speaking through an in­terpreter, the suspected kill­ers told journalists that they killed the duo for stealing cows and decided to teach them a lesson.

They argued that it was a serious matter and could not be allowed to go like that, adding that this not a laughing matter.

Also paraded were two suspected illegal firearms dealers who were arrested in Kabba on their way to Okene with five new pump action guns and 50 ammu­nitions in five packs which were scheduled to be deliver to unnamed persons
