The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has said that 243 people died while 1,919 were rescued in auto crashes that occurred between January and October in Kogi State.

The state FRSC Sector Commander, Godwin Omiko, stated this at the weekend in Lokoja, during a candle light procession to commemorate 2014 Africa Road Safety Day/ Remembrance Day of road traffic crash victims.

The sector commander said the procession was necessary to remember and commiserate with road crash victims, adding that the command is committed to reduction of accidents.

He warned that motorists who violate traffic rules and regulations will be arrested and prosecuted by the commission.

“As we are in the ember months now, we use this opportunity to advise motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations. FRSC will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any motorist who contravenes the rules, no matter how highly placed,” he said.

He said the command will place its officers at strategic locations along the Lokoja- Abuja highway to ensure that motorists drove according to laid down rules.
