The Elulu of Mopa and Chairman of the Mopamuro Traditional Council, Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, has declared that no one can challenge the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, in the 2027 general elections.
The monarch pledged his personal support and that of the Mopamuro Traditional Council to the two leaders, describing them as too capable and too intelligent to face any credible challenge at the polls.
Oba Ibeun spoke while receiving members of the Kogi West All Progressives Congress (APC) Leaders Forum at his palace. The delegation had visited to sensitise the district on unity, peace and progress ahead of the general and gubernatorial elections in the state.
The monarch said Mopamuro Local Government Area has enjoyed the dividends of democracy since he ascended the throne, singling out the Mopa Township road project embarked upon by the Ododo administration as evidence of the governor’s commitment to the area.
He said the people of Mopamuro were satisfied with the governor’s performance and wanted him to continue his work beyond 2027, describing the APC forum’s visit as timely and strategic.
According to Oba Ibeun, Governor Ododo’s humility, his record of prompt salary payments, and massive infrastructure development across the state would speak for him at the election.
He charged the delegation to ensure that consultations on power shift between the state’s two senatorial districts were properly documented and given legal backing.
The traditional ruler also commended President Tinubu, saying the president inherited an insecure country but is tackling the challenge head-on. He said Nigerians have experienced “fresh air” under the Tinubu administration.
Oba Ibeun further expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for what he described as genuine love for him and the people of his domain, calling it a unique sign of a “chief servant.”
Earlier, the leader of the forum, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), used the occasion to convey the state government’s appreciation to the monarch for his unwavering support for government and security agencies in protecting lives and property in the local government area.
Commander Omodara, recalling Oba Ibeun’s past advocacy for power shift before he became monarch, said such a shift, though lawful, should only occur after Governor Ododo completes his second term.
He argued that no senatorial district can produce a governor in isolation, stressing that the Kogi West Senatorial District must seek alliance with the Central Senatorial District to succeed, citing their historical relationship dating back to the old Kwara State.
Commander Omodara, who is also the state’s Security Adviser, said the forum remained undeterred by criticism on social media and was focused on ensuring the re-election of both President Tinubu and Governor Ododo.
He said the president has shown particular compassion for the West Senatorial District and the wider state through appointments of indigenes to key positions, including ministerial roles, headships of government agencies and parastatals, and the office of the Chief of Army Staff.
He maintained that for the West and the rest of the state to enjoy more dividends of democracy, President Tinubu must be returned to Aso Rock to consolidate on his achievements.
Also speaking, forum members Hon. Alfred Bello and Hon. Funsho Olumoko appealed to the traditional ruler to counsel individuals allegedly being used to cause confusion and division within the district, urging them to desist.
