The call for power rotation in the next Kogi State’s gubernatorial election is borne out of utmost interest for the collective growth and development of our highly enviable State, under the leadership of His Excellency; Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, who has gallantly paddled the ship of numerous and laudable developmental strides within his two tenures in office.

Although, it is not in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to rotate power and no Senatorial District can win on her own without the collaboration of other districts, but in the spirit of unity and peace, this social contract has become the song on the lips of numerous well-meaning Kogites, and even various bodies in diaspora as we transit into another dispensation of Government.

Obviously, the audacity and sincerity of the Governor has drastically improved the political landscape of the State, and endorsing this lingered or well- overdue idea of power rotation to Kogi West Senatorial District will be a huge addition to the legacy of the Governor in the modern democracy in Kogi State. And further showcase him as a detribalized Nationalist, void of nepotism, prebendalism, and a leader with a heart for Equity and Fairness.

Power rotation is a blessing in disguise and a viable tool for our social cohension, platform for inclusiveness, and a closer walk towards political stability in a multi-ethnical State like ours. Taking into connaissance that Kogi East Senatorial District has benefited a whooping sixteen years consecutively through the various leadership of Late Prince Abubarkar Audu, Former Governor Ibrahim Idris, and Former Governor Idris Ichalla Wada; all before the incumbent power from the platform of APC, from the Kogi Central Senatorial District, in person of HE; Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, which the end of this tenure will make it eight years, with no year accorded to Kogi West Senatorial District.

In speaking the voice of many, I urge His Excellency, the Governor of Kogi State to consider and execute power rotation. It will give room for a participatory democracy where each Senatorial District have stake appropriately. Perhaps, “variety is the spice of life.” The three Senatorial Districts in Kogi State has capable hands to lead Kogi State very well at any time. However, giving Kogi West this honor will produce a balance in our walk to maturity in this democratic system of Government. Obviously, Kogi West Senatorial District have highly resourceful and blessed candidates with character, competency and credibility. It is needful to establish the priority of civility through equity and fairness, which the Governor has been exceptional out of all the past leaders right from the creation of Kogi State.

At the Gubernatorial Election draws nearer, this clarion call is to solicit for the endorsement of our Distinguished Governor, in person of His Excellency; Yahaya Bello to consider posterity in giving room for power rotation to Kogi West Senatorial District. This could lead to an enduring legacy and an heroic decision with moral justification.

God Bless Kogi State!
