PRESS RELEASE

RE: KOGI EAST ELDERS’ COUNCIL ENDORSES DR. VICTOR A. ADOJI

The attention of the Kogi East Elders’ Council (KEEC) has been drawn to the news making the round in online publications and platforms to the effect that it has endorsed a candidate, Dr. Victor Alewo Adoji as the candidate of Kogi East Senatorial Zone in the 2019 election.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.

When the Kogi East Elders’ Council (KEEC) inaugurated the Political Sub-Committee in May 2018, its modus operandi were well spelt out. One of the directives to the Political Sub-Committee was that its line of communication at all times must be through the Council.  This means that it had no powers to speak with the press or other parties without recourse to the Council.

Having said that, even if the Political Sub-Committee feels inclined to endorse a particular candidate, it ought to have made its recommendation to the Council for deliberation before speaking to the public on this.  The Council believes that all aspirants for the Senatorial seat are bona fide sons and daughters of Kogi East and Council as the apex socio-political group cannot afford to play favoritism among our own children.  Council has not received their report when the name of the Council was dragged into the public space.  This is not acceptable.

Council appeals to all sons and daughters of Kogi East Senatorial District to remain calm as we resolve the uproar that the said publications have caused. The statement credited to the Chairman of the Political Sub-committee, Chief John Odanwu is unauthorized.

Signed:
Alphonsus K. Alhassan
General Secretary, KEEC,
Abuja.
