2019: Rotation of Political Offices is An Ancestral Culture in Ijumu – Dr. Oniemola

Rotation of incumbents of public offices is an ancestral culture, tradition and methodology of inclusiveness that has been under covenant and bequeathed to us by the Ijumu ancestors. Succession in governance has always been by rotation of title-holders among lineages  clans, communities and the three brother-districts in the Kingdom/Constituency. This culture/tradition simply dovetails and enhanced power sharing and political inclusiveness at the wake of the formal neo-colonial state system. Even, the IDM has never attempted to dismantle this pillar of administration of Ijumuland.
Change is constant in life, no doubt. But it never happens in a vacuum. So far, the reality is that the House of Rep slot that would hopefully rotate back to Ijunu constituency should go to Ijumu-Arin, because the last holder of the office in Ijumu was from Gbede district – Hon., now,  “Most Distinguished” Senator Dino Melaye.
So, gentlemen, if anyone desires to change the tradition, let the process be protocolly, consensual and devoid of brick-batting. However young or rich we are today, we should always be reminded of the essence, I.e., inclusiveness – which several generations that were perhaps younger and richer in the past, had planted to drive the greater Ijumu of tomorrow.
I appeal to the 64 political parties in Nigeria to respect Ijunu people and tradition for a rewarding participation.
