Okene II is a constituency which consist of four wards namely to be Abuga Ozuja, Obehira-Eba, Obehira-Uvete and Upogoro/Odenku, and is blessed with 87 polling units.
Okene II state constituency happen to be the most peaceful place in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi state and this make the constituency the most peaceful and loving place of living in the whole Kogi state.
This constituency is blessed with a rich cultures with traditional leaders who took it upon their selves to ensure the reign of peace in this community. They use to caution and preach to every house hold about the effects of violence during and after election. This have been in existence for years over years until the constituency is cursed with some political fanatics who called themselves a political leaders.
To make short the story, prior to the election, the royal and the traditional ruler called the candidates of the two major parties for a peace accord but those who believe in achieving through violence turned down the invitation, not knowing to that they have perfect a plan of disrupt the election. Those who are supposed to use their political offices to coordinate and promote the existence of peace in the constituency happened to be ones engineering violence during the processes.
It is somehow amazing where a candidate of a political party engaged himself in a physical fight with people he wants to represent during the election process, that is what I considered as preposterous character and a puerile character, which show the level of his exposure and what Okene II politics have turned into. It is disgusting that in a community that have Momoh Jibril, the accountant general to the state government; Yakubu Omade, the deputy chief of staff to the state deputy governor and other appointees of government could not use the power of their offices to unite the youths, but they rather create differences.
They called it victory. When I heard it, I smiled. A victory achieved through the uses of guns, machetes, government machinery like the security agencies? To me that’s a sign of weakness and incompetence. It is only in Okene II you will see an appointee running in the field like children playing a ball made from banana peel when chasing their opposition.
We are all Nigerians and Nigerians hate being threatened, I wonder how they forget that the best way to win the heart of a typical Nigeria man is through love and peace not through violence or trying to enslave them.
Those boys you made your thugs are from some person’s family, people’s relatives and friends, why can’t you send them to school or make them successful in any business of their choice? Why didn’t you give them pen and book instead of guns and machetes? Why don’t you give the plate and cup? Why can’t you empower them to be of benefit to the society? They enjoyed the whole thing as if they were eating their favorite meal as their thugs are at work.
Now the good people of Okene II want the stolen mandate back to the people’s choice, and they are there seeking for favor from every angle like the goat that was beaten by the rain. Now the bees from the hive they destroyed with their ignorance is here to sting them in the tribunal. Just return the people’s mandate back to the people’s choice to save yourselves from shame and disgrace, because Okene II has their choice and that choice is the people’s choice, Hon.
