2019: Mass Defection Looms in Kogi APC Over Alleged Imposition of Candidates

A group, the Concerned Youth Forum has threatened that there will be a mass defections if the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) fails to address the current imbroglio surrounding the endorsement of some candidates in Kogi State.

The National Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Omosona T. Olakunle who gave the hints on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in Lokoja, stated that the group is calling on APC for a level playing ground in Kogi West Senatorial District as they say no to imposition.

The group expressed worries over the rumours making the round the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has endorsed some individuals for elective positions in Kogi West Senatorial District.

The spokesperson of the group  noted said that it was heartwarming to read the position of the government o  this issue with a press statement by Director General Media and Strayegy, Femi Kingsley Fanwo who reiterated the commitment of the State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello  to facilitate a level playing field for all aspirants in the forthcoming Party primaries of APC.

“Curiously on Sunday 2nd September 2018, a meeting was convened by the Right Honourable Mathew Kolawole, the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Mrs Ayoade Folashade Arike Secretary to the State Government, Commodore Jerry Omodara, State Security Adviser, Hon. Ropo Asala, APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Kogi West and some top government appointees from Kogi West senatorial district during which those in the meeting were informed that His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello directed that they informed the aspirants of endorsement of certain persons in confirmation of the earlier speculations to that effect,” he stressed.

He therefore pointed out that there is an obvious contradiction in the earlier position of the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello as expressed in the press statement by Director General on Media and Strategy when view against the directive of passed during the meeting held at Glass House on the aforementioned date.

He noted that the State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello has so far proves yo be a just and fair leader whose integrity is not in doubt.

“In light of the contradictions that played up on Sunday’s meeting we are constrained a humbly seek for clarification on the endorsement directives which is negation of governor Bello for an open just and transparent process”, he added.

The group therefore warned the leadership of the party at State and National level to wade into the lingering crisis now, stressing that it will cause defection to other parties and consequently dim the electoral fortune of APC in Kogi State.
