Contrary to some social media reports that he planted ammunitions in a vehicle branded with the name of an Assembly aspirant, Mr John Aduga, the member representing Ankpa 1 in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Honourable Ahmed Mohammed says the allegation is false as he does not believe in violent politics to win election.
Military officers on patrol over the weekend arrested three youths in Ankpa Local Government Area for alleged illegal possession of two riffles and magazine firearms.
The lawmaker who narrated his own side of the story in a statement obtained by our correspondent said; “On Friday evening, I received so many calls from my constituents in Ankpa township of strange faces of young men coming into the town, driving very suspiciously and later then, exactly 8:00pm, there were reports of shootings, burning of a vehicle belonging to one Mr. John Aduga, who is to declare his political ambition on Saturday.
“I immediately put a call to the administrator Ankpa LGA and all security agencies and they began a thorough security patrol in all the nooks and crannies of the town. With the help of the Nigerian Navy some hoodlums were arrested on Saturday 10th March, 2018 in a branded Vehicle belonging to Mr. John Aduga and in possession of firearms.
“We want to state categorically that accusing my supporters of burning a vehicle is totally false and a lie concocted by propaganda machinery to divert attention from the condemnation of his sponsored hoodlums.
“Ankpa has never been a fortress for sponsored or an orchestrated violence. Importing hoodlums from Benue State to terrorize our people just for a mere declaration of intent is completely unacceptable.”
While sounding a note of warning that he will not condone any form of crime or violence in any part of his constituency, the lawmaker assured his people that the masterminds and sponsors of the act will not get away with their crimes.
He added that Kogi State government is committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property of every resident in Ankpa LGA.
“No reasonable person should support it. It does not depict civility in any way. I am also warning legislators from Ankpa LGA, both at the State and the Federal level, who has misplaced priorities and are bent on instigating crisis, sponsoring thugs to disrupt the peace of the people of Ankpa 1 constituency to back off,” Ahmed added.
