2019 Elections: Akawu Calls for Peaceful, Issue-based Campaigns

Ahead of 2019 general elections, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Hon. Saidu Akawu Salihu has called for issue-based and crisis-free campaigns to ensure peace and enhance democracy in Kogi State, and the country at large.
Akawu, who was the Chairman of APC reconciliation committee for Lokoja/ Kogi Federal constituency, made the call on Saturday in Koton Karfe while addressing thousands of APC supporters  across Lokoja /Kogi Federal Constituency.
According to him, when candidates engage in issue-based and peaceful campaign, such development will reduce name calling and character assassination during and after elections as well bring about positive atmosphere in polity.
He noted that it’s only under a peaceful atmosphere that successful elections could be held.
Akawu urged politicians to play the game of politics by adhering to the rules, stressing that the purpose of seeking for elective positions was to better the lot of the people.
“In other words, if your intention is to contribute your quota for the good of the people and Lokoja/ Kogi Federal Constituency in general, you must do all to resist what will resort to conflict or crisis, as the case may be.
“Aside our personal conduct, we must also sensitise our supporters in the area of peace, unity and politics without bitterness,” he said.
Akawu, a traditional title holder of Galadima of Koton Karfe, stated further: ” I have been holding meetings with All Progressive Congress, APC supporters across the federal Constituency on  the reason why they must shun all actions capable of provocation from the supporters of our opponents during and after elections.”
Highlights of the rally was the presentation of Alhaji Abubakar Wambai, the APC flagbearer for Lokoja/ Kogi Federal Constituency to the mammoth crowd of APC supporters by Akawu.
He appealed to party faithful to vote all APC Candidates in the forthcoming elections.
In his remarks, the APC candidate Alhaji Abubakar Wambai thanked APC supporters for giving him their mandate, assuring them of his determination to provide the dividends of democracy.
According to him; “My aim is to work for the betterment of Lokoja/ Kogi  Federal Constituency, as such, we must allow peace to reign supreme before, during and after the elections.”
He called on the candidates of various political parties to sell their candidacy to the electorate by dwelling on people-oriented programmes and policies they would rely on to promote the welfare of the citizenry.
The rally was attended by APC Members across the two Local Governments of Lokoja and Kogi /koto Karfe.
