As much as I have been an ardent critic of this present
administration and the ruling APC, I will equally not shy away from
chastitising Alh. Atiku Abubarkar, PDP presidential candidate, for the
disdainful character he exhibited last night by leaving the debate
venue just because a fellow contestant absconded from the same
debate.
This ill adviced decision has prompted me to reason beyond
imagination as to why he had to behave in such an obstinate manner.
Must Buhari be there in order for you to debate? No, he need not to
be there as we already know his worth and the reason for his second
term ambition. But Atiku, a man who had been devalued by those
parading him as the right candidate for the presidency, who could also
have taken the opportunity to redeem his bad image before Nigerians,
but pride would not allow him as he arrogantly left the debate venue
for a donkey reason.
Had he participated in the debate, was he going to attack president
Buhari or to make the proposed modus operandi of his government known
and the reasons for his candidature? – Was he invited to the debate by
Buhari? – Does he mean he’s bigger than other contestants?
Well, we all think differently, but his attitude last night showed
how pride has won over him and it was also a total disrespect to
Nigerians and the other contestants present.
He has shown how desperate he is to engage in a word of war with
Buhari. It would have been a different story had it been he never
showed up.
President Buhari’s presence would have added more sauce to the debate
as he’s would be on the defensive and offensive accompained by new
ideas.
Incumbent absconding from presidential debate is one of the legacies
inherited from the previous administration.
Kudos to those candidates who deemed it necessary to honor the
invitation, ” you all performed excellently beyond my expectation, and
also, each of you have the qualities and initiative to lead our dear
country to greater heights.”
The debate is a good development to our decision making and
democratic life which must be sustained at all cost.
