2018 Flood: NEMA Has Provided Relief Materials to 45,577 Households in Kogi – Official

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided relief materials to identified 45,577 households affected by the 2018 flood disaster in Kogi State.

Mr Tope Ajayi, the Team Leader, Emergency Operation Centre B of NEMA who supervised the distributions told newsmen in Lokoja that the beneficiaries were from nine local governments ravaged by the flood disaster of 2018.

He said that victims were identified with the assistance of the state and local government officials.

According to him, Ibaji local government has the highest beneficiaries of 27, 337 households while while Ofu Local Government has 1,220 households.
Others are Ajaokuta Local Government , 2,691 households, Idah, 1,839 households, Igalamela, 1,267 households while 2,987 households were from Kogi Local Government.

Ajayi said that , 2,605 households benefited in Lokoja Local  Government while Omala and Bassa local governments had  1,181 and  4,442 beneficiaries respectively.

He said food and non food items, including rice, maize, beans, clothes, roofing sheets, blankets, beverages, sugar, milk, buckets, salt, nylon mats, drugs, mattresses and cooking pots among others.

Ajayi said that the agency’s action was in line with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari that relief assistance be provided to 2018 flood victims.

He expressed happiness that the Agency had been able to carry out the directive successfully, thanking all the stakeholders for their cooperation.

The statement also quoted the Kogi State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Sanusi Yahaya, as appreciating NEMA for the intervention.

Yahaya who is also the Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency appreciated NEMA and was particularly happy that all identified victims of the flood disaster in Kogi State benefited.
