About 10 deaths were recorded in auto crashes that occurred across Kogi State in the month of July , 2013.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Olakunle Matajo, who disclosed this yesterday in Lokoja, said the deaths were recorded from 68 accidents that occurred across the state in the period under review.
He said 10 people died, 138 sustained injuries while 10 escaped unhurt, adding that the casualty figure reduced compare to previous months due to road patrols embarked upon by the command. The sector commander who attributed the crashes to over speeding, dangerous overtaking, dangerous driving as well as violation of traffic rules, said the command is working to ensure that motorists plying through the state move at a minimal speed.
Matajo further disclosed that a total of 1,318 motorists and cyclists were apprehended across the state in the month under review for violating traffic rules, adding that 945 were counselled while the others were fined.
