A pan Igala socio-cultural group, Igala Consultative Forum (ICF), has raised alarm on plans by Air Marhal Isaac Alfa (rtd), in connivance with some top officials of the state and federal governments to declare the Kogi East Senate seat vacant.
The group in a statement signed by the protem secretary, Akeem Mohammed, said the cultural group will not hesitate to declare Isaac Alfa “persona non grata” as his actions is directed towards the under-development of the Igala/Bassa race.
Akeem frowned at the ulterior motives of the contender and his accomplices to openly deny the Igala race representation at the red chamber for sheer personal and bitter politicking.
He said efforts by Alfa and his collaborators to coerce the Appeal Court to appoint vacation judge to hear the appeal filed by Kogi East Senator, Atai Aidoko Ali and in the process raise an injunction before the panel of judges to declare the seat vacant is already in the public domain. He urged the judiciary to thread softly and maintain its unbiased stance.
Sources confirmed that Alfa had criss crossed the Appeal Court to lobby for resumed hearing and along the line sought for needless decision through an application to declare the seat vacant.
Akeem stated that Kogi East Senate tussle is a pre-election matter that is suppose to run its full course to the supreme court with a reference to an already existing judgment in the last two months in respect of a House of Representatives seat and the recent judgment in favour of Senator Albert Bassey (Akwa Ibom north). He noted that Kogi East is not an exception.
“Albert Bassey lost both at the High court and Appeal court but later won at the Supreme court. Throughout the litigation period, he remained in the red chambers. Anything contrary to this precedence will be an aberration,” he said.
Igala forum averred that the concluded plans by the former Chief of Air Staff is not in the interest of the Igala race and that going by the people’s opinion.
“We cannot concede the Igala nation to an half-Idoma who denied our people the benefits of public office in the past and intend to hijack our current democratic dispensation,” he added.
He pleaded that Senator Aidoko should be allowed to run the 8th senate without further distraction to enable him contribute his own quota to the advancement of the people of Igala land.
He described the current political leadership in the state as an embarrassment having embraced politics of disintegration rather than development, urging them to steer clear of Kogi East.
