Our Heroes Are Long Gone, What We Have Left Are Potbelly Politicians

I’ve been quiet for too long, but today I can’t take in the hurt any longer, I rather stab back the people feeding on our pains and living like Gods over us, while forgetting that the replacement of power is as simple as the story of David and King Saul.

I am from a country whereby, if a system failed we bring up another system. Observe it and wait patiently for improvement but it definitely fails again. I’m talking about a country where her citizens will be crying for meat and her leaders will givewood, for water and they gavesweats. If you still don’t get what am trying to say (let me explain further); this is a country where someone can become a governor even without participating in an election and the electorate can go hang themselves for all our leaders care (if you think deeply, you will know who exactly am talking about). A country where a Governor owing over 16 months tax payers salary still get awarded and celebrated even by the same people his oppressing.

They took away our democracy. They promised us change but we constantly find ourselves in chains. We are a free Nation but still held captive by our old dogged leaders who are leading us with their colonial mentality. When I was little still trying hard to find my way, I was thought in school about the great leaders who brought our country to the promise land. Sadly today, the story is still the same. The lie I was feed with is still the same lies we are still feeding our children in schools today. Welcome to the country where heroes are been recycled.

This is a government who will bring in policies that will not only favor their pockets, but add sorrow to the masses. A government who in the name of power created insurgency and chaos, and the sorrowful stories always ends with the masses. A government who will request for the removal of subsidy without the increment of the worker’s salary but will rather ask for more wardrobe allowances. The government who now prefers to use three weeks trained personnel (Corp Members) as teachers and ministry worker rather than employing more qualified and trained personnel. These are officials that treat malaria outside the shores of their country, but trying everything possible to kill the careers of its entertainers all in the name of revenue generation. Seriously, we’ve been a fool for long and our stupidity keeps surfacing in episodes. Why can’t there be a law to stop all these Potbelly leaders from receiving medical treatment abroad? Why can’t there be a policy to stop any public office holder from sending their children/wards abroad for academic qualification, while our higher institutions of learning are in total obscurity? And most importantly: why is there no one talking?

A government will catch a suspected common thief and lock him up for years without prosecution, whereas will let their cohorts and accused members walk and travel freely. Myheart bleeds after reading about how a High Court of Justice sentenced a 42 year old man to death by hanging for stealing N3,420. Yet, we all know of a man who stole $2.1bn and no valid judgement was passed. A government that will bring in scholarships to help those that can’t afford it and will give it to their children and relatives. A government that will bring stupid curriculums to ours schools to frustrate the masses while their children travel abroad to school. A government that is bombarding the nation with debts all in the name of giving light to the nation, but we are still living in chronic darkness.  This is a government that said they are here to save us from ourselves. Yet they arrest, threaten and even kill the person that dares to speak out. They have gambled with the lives of millions in other to keep the money in their pockets rolling. They live lavishly as servants of the nation while the Nation suffers from financial, economical, educational and even moral carcinoma. This disease has eaten us so deep to the extent that her citizens now forget their rights and watch any station the Potbelly leaders tuned for them. The ecosystem between the government and the masses has become chemoautotrophs where the government feeds on the masses as food. Until we rise up and face this failed system we can’t stop failing as a country. Macro-evolution must take place for us to witness real change and transformation in our country.

My country has been pregnant on different occasions. The youths are always hopeful with their hope renewed. They always patiently await the birth of a new leader who will save them from the hands of the oppressors. But their hope gets shattered every time. The pregnancies are always aborted. We lost our credibility, our currency got devalued, our young girls got raped through early marriages (and the system is quite about all these). This is a wake-up call to all Nigerian youths (our Mumu don do). Yes! The Potbelly Leaders are our hero, they brought us out of slavery, and they managed the system and made it what it is today. They think they deserve our applause for their sacrifices and all the straight bullets they had to dodge (that is if they truly dodge any). I don’t belief all these Potbelly Leaders dodge any bullet because am one of those who believes that our true heroes who brought us to the Promised Land are long gone. They died in battle and sadly they are long forgotten. Dear Potbelly Leaders, your breasts milk is now bitter and you’ve fed us enough. My pen is as sharp as a two edged sword and I won’t get tired until my people truly get the change they deserve. Stop promising us change when you yourselves are still living in the past. Stop talking about the bright future your mind can’t even conceive.

The Republic our dead heroes fought for is not the nation we are currently living in. The Potbelly Army Chiefs turned Politicians who did noting during the war, but sit in secure locations claiming to be directing what was happening on the battle field. Our heroes fought and died on the battle field. They fought with their last breath, thinking there generations to come will forever remain absolutely free. Their cries shook the earth; their tears flowed like the River Nile. But sadly they fought for nothing. Because this is not the Republic they envisioned. What they promised us was a true federalism but what we get is tribalism. My country is a place where one particular language is more superior to any other (the people inclusive). It’s time we bit the breast that fed us. It’s time we tell them to their face that their breast milk are now bitter. I’ve had enough, so many of us have had enough. Let the earth be moved with our cry of revolution. Let the dead heroes shake in their graves. Let their struggles be justify. Let’s push out the Potbelly Politicians. Enough of the sorrow, tears and blood.
