Amidst fears of a bleak Christmas celebration in Kogi State, the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo has confirmed that civil servants in the state have been paid their salaries

Reacting to media reports on non-payment of salaries ahead of the festive season, the Governor’s spokesman said there was no official statement because the Governor views salary issues as its statutory obligation.

“I am aware that salaries have been paid but we can’t make it a celebratory issue when it is normal for government to pay salaries. Governor Yahaya Bello is committed to the welfare of Kogi workers and will stop at nothing to ensure they get the best treatment.

“This government will remain focused. We won’t respond to paid renegades. We are determined to focus on doing the best for our people.

“On behalf of Governor Yahaya Bello, I wish all Kogi workers a merry Christmas,” he said.

Fanwo’s statement is was corroborated by some civil servants who confirmed that their salaries were paid on the eve of Christmas.

They hailed the Kogi State Governor for ensuring salaries were paid before Christmas, saying the gesture made it possible for them to enjoy the festivities.

A civil servant working with one of the government ministries told our reporter that the Kogi State Government has made the Christmas celebration a “great one for him and his family”.

“While I was going to the bank, I read a report that we have not been paid and that we won’t be paid before Christmas. I laughed and told the people in the vehicle that salaries have been paid.

“I heard the Governor directed the Ministry of Finance to ensure workers get their salaries before Christmas. We love his actions and concerns about our welfare and he will get the best from civil servants”.
