Gegu Beki Town in Kogi local government area, on Friday came alive once again, as prominent dignitaries,sons and daughters from far and near stormed the ancient city for the celebration of the annual Gegu Beki day, conveyed by Gegu Beki development Association .
As parts of programme lined up for the commemoration of Gegu Beki day was a visit to Nigeria Military Unit , Nigeria Police ,Federal Road Safety Commission, Kogi state Vigilante service , Nigeria Vigilante group, Nigeria.Security and civil defense corps amongst others.
Gegu Beki development Association leadership equally visited the GYB General hospital, and Primary healthcare centre were large sum of money was donated to take care of patients who are recuperating from varying degrees of sickness and injuries. Similar cash presentation were made to the security outfits in the area as a show of appreciation to their tireless efforts to curb any form of security challenges and to celebrate with them during this Yuletide season
An illustrious Son of the community, who is also the present Commissioner of Solid Minerals and natural resources, Engr. Abubakir Bashir Mohammed Gegu, explained that the day is set aside to celebrate her achievements ,challenges and prospects .
Addressing the ranks and files of the Military Unit , Vigilante group of Nigeria, Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Commission , Nigeria Security and Civil defense corps Engr.Abubakar Gegu, said the familiarisation and Yuletide Visits was to appreciate the enormous contributions of these outfits in securing lives and property of the citizens which has made the community to earned an appellation of Paragon of peaceful, progressive and united area.
According to him, the visit would enable the community to see for itself challenges facing them and profer solutions that are within its powers and drew government’s attention when the need arises.
The National President of Gegu Beki development Association,Dr.Abubakir Musa,explained that the other familiarization tour to military and other para-military structures in the community is a show of appreciation for their good works in securing lives and properties of the people.
According to him,the visit is also a wake up call for the security organisations to redoubles their efforts in putting more strategies to prevent crime and criminalities to Fast-track peace, unity and development which the community is known for over the years
At the Palace of Nyiwo Gegu Beki and a first class Traditional ruler, his royal Majesty, Alhaji Mohammed Abbas Alhassan, commended Sons and daughters of the community for their reliance dedication in pursuing development to the land of their forefathers.
The monarch prayed God for His continued blessings on them and the entire land ,urging them to promote harmonious relationships with their co-habitants to sustain the existing peace , unity and development of the kingdom.
Captain Moses Oji of the Nigeria. Army, Suleiman Labaran ,Operations Officer Vigilante Nigeria group ,Abdulahi Nuhu,kogi sub-commander all commended the leadership of Gegu beki community for their morals and logistics support which have made their operations easier .
Captain Moses Ojih, explained the military Unit in Gegu Beki will leave no stone unturned with the support of mother security bodies to nip any security threat in the bud and lauded Gegu Beki community for embracing and the absolute support provided which has ease their operations in the area.
Some top government functionaries which included senior special Assistant to the governor on Climate change,Abu Ette, SSA on Pipe line surveillance and officials from the Ebira Peoples Association led by hon Alhassan Adankeke were on hand during the occasion.
