The National Coordinator of The National Youth Rebirth Forum, Comrade Olabode Adeyemi has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for setting up of the Committee to discuss amnesty for the deadly sect – Boko Haram. He described the action as the right step at this point in time.
Comrade Bode praised the President for yielding to the voice of various opinion leaders and organisations that have pleaded with Mr President to grant amnesty to the Boko haram group.
He therefore said that the presidency has mistakenly not considered the inclusion of youth in the committee, he stressed that as beautify as the idea is, its very important and critically necessary for a minimum of two youth to be included in the committee since majority of the people involved in Boko haram are traceably youth hence it becomes instructive to include youth in the committee.
He further stressed that its not possible for government to be planning to grant amnesty to a group that is confirmed to be predominantly youth and not involved the youth in the committee.
In his words, “Its very fundamentally necessary and compulsory for the presidency to appoint a minimum of two youth in the amnesty committee so that the work could be easily done since the series of attacks and arrests that have been carried out have shown that youth are mostly involved in the insurgency and besides the fact that most of the victims of the attack are also youth, we therefore call on government as advocates of the Nigerian youth to immediately appoint a youth in the committee.
He also call on the members of the boko haram to please accept the amnesty option for the sake of peace, progress and development, he noted that no meaningful development can happen in the atmosphere of insecurity. The economy of the northern Nigeria has practically been brought to a stand still and the fabrics of our united Nigeria critically threatened by these killings, bombings and wide violence.
