Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state yesterday assured workers in the 21 council areas that the balance of the bailout from the first tranche of 20 billion naira is safe and secured.
The governor who declared this yesterday, through the Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Abubakar Ohere, told the officials of the National Union of Local Government Employees( NULGE), urged workers to disregard the insinuation that the money has been misappropriated.
He maintained that because of the premium placed on the workers, payment of salaries of LG workers for the months of September and October has commenced.
According to him, “as a sensitive government we have also commenced the opening up of rural and farm roads to ease transportation of farm produce to the markets in addition to the payment of salaries”
“I just like the governor has assured you in the past, no genuine worker in the state or local government will be denied of his salaries as a result of the just conclude staff verification exercise”
He assured NULGE officials of continuous engagement to avoid a breakdown in communication, which he said is not good for harmonious relationship.
In his reaction the NULGE, president in the state, comrade Taide Adeyemi, commended the SA on the dynamism he has brought to bear in Local government administration in the state.
He appealed to the government to urgently looked into and correct all noticeable lapses arising from the screening of local government workers in the state.
