Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba, has said a second term in office for Governor Yahaya Bello will spell doom for the people of the state.
Speaking yesterday on Channels TV, Achuba said he is not having a personal clash with the governor, but only engaging in a struggle for emancipation.
The Kogi State House of Assembly yesterday commenced the impeachment process against Achuba.
The Assembly based its decision on the action and utterances of the deputy governor on national television stations.
Achuba said: “The governor is behind the impeachment plot. I must continue to appreciate him for picking me and making me his deputy. But I will not agree to non-performance and fraud, defrauding the state and making the civil servants suffer for nothing without paying salaries as and when due, you don’t do projects at the satisfaction of people. Why should that be?
“Curiously, that same man is up that he wants to be governor a second term. The people of Kogi State will die if he becomes governor a second term. I am ready to face the Assembly panel and I’m happy with all the development because it’s a sign to the fact that what I’ve been saying is true.
“I’m very ready and not perturbed at all. I want every good Nigerian to know that it is a struggle for the emancipation of this land, we can’t continue that war.”
On his next line of action, he said: “My next move is to continue to unveil more corruption allegations against the governor. I have them in series. They believe that I will be discouraged with all these, but that is just a joke because I will continue.
“This is not a fight and he is not an enemy to me. He picked me as deputy and I will continue to appreciate him. I am only saying let the right things be done, use the people’s money for the people.”
