The accident that Yahaya Bello and his Co-travellers has become in Kogi State. 100 days in office without visible policy direction.
The inauguration in January 2016 of an impostor “Yahaya Bello” who never campaigned neither was he voted for during the November 21 election was greeted with mixed feelings; to some it was divine to achieve “power shift” while to others it was a golden opportunity that a youth will take charge of affairs in the state; but to some of us, we knew we have been setup to fail by forces external to kogi state and sooner than later we have been proven right.
100 days after, Yahaya Bello performance can at best be tagged as woeful and lacking in direction, and his performance during this period under review is nothing to write home about, as no serious government would watch the state drifting into absenteeism as there is nothing serious in term of governance in the state; evidently in 100 days the government has completely lost direction and focus.
It is unfortunate that the Yahaya Bello has demonstrated to the people of kogi state that he is not competent to govern the state having surrounded himself with a bunch of sycophants who know nothing about governance but are only carried away with the affluence of office and personal gains.
Our ‘newbreed’ governor have failed to inspire hope that the future of this state lies with the youth. He lack the attributes and attitudes of good leadership, he lacks vision, strategic thinking, purposeful planning and productive action. The administration operate on brainwaves, and tend to mistake rashness or rascality for radicalism, mostly they acts before thinking through, and when shocked by the uproar that often follows some of their rash actions, and instead of consulting and making redress they unleash their spin doctors on perceived opposition, and tries to rationalize their impulsive and counter-productive actions. A few days after Yahaya Bello was sworn-in, he started seeing witches and wizards everywhere in the roundabouts and other monuments of Lokoja, capital city of Kogi state, and demolished them all. It was left to his spin doctors to say that he pulled down those structures in order to build better ones that will beautify the capital. Eight weeks after, no one has been privileged to see his design of the structures that will replace the demolished ones talk less of mobilizing to site to commence re-construction activities.
Amongst other achievements that can be attributed to Yahaya Bello in 100 days includes meddling in the affairs of Kogi State assembly and masterminding the illegal 5 claiming to have impeached the speaker and elect a new one in a 20-man assembly, and colluding with some authorities to cause an infraction against the Nigeria constitution by forcing open an assembly whom activities have been taken over by the House of representative by ordering an illegal seating.
Known for wasteful and unauthorized spending; his other achievements includes reckless spending of our state lean resources, sale of his personal property to the state government at an inflated cost and award of contract without an approved budget, and without subjecting such awards to due process.
Prominent amongst his achievements is the polarisation of Kogi APC leading to the State Exco and stakeholders passing a vote of no confidence on him after accusing him of sidelining members of the state executive council and other organs of the party in the affairs of the state, and patronizing card carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who worked against APC victory at the November 21 polls.
It is worrisome that 100 days after, Yahaya Bello have not been able to roll-out the blueprint that will guide his “New Direction” nor is there respite for the good people of kogi state as % salary is still the order of the day, impunity has become more pronounced, and hopelessness is gradually setting in.
My good people of Kogi State, our hope and assurances is hinged on the recovery of the mandate freely given to the Audu/Faleke through the courts which will happen sooner than expected, so that the visitor can be sent packing from Lugard House and kogi can have a fresh breadth.
