The Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul has condemned the persistent physical attacks on media practitioners in the line of duty.

Miliki made this known in a statement issued in Lokoja on Monday in commemoration of this year’s World Press Freedom Day.

The activist described attacks on journalists in Nigeria and across the world as unacceptable and condemnable.

He said that it is important for all stakeholders to continue to safeguard freedom of the press and free flow of information.

He maintained that journalism is a noble profession, stressing that journalists should be able to practice their profession without any hindrance.

Miliki added that owners of media institutions should also take the welfare of journalists seriously.

“We call on journalists not to allow themselves to be intimidated in any way, and to uphold the principle of professionalism at all times.”
