Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Bello has commended the Super Eagles for defending the flag of Nigeria by becoming the first African country to qualify for Russia 2018 World Cup.
Speaking through his Director General on Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo in Lokoja, Sunday, Governor Bello said the qualification is a clear indication that Nigeria has regained her strength in Africa under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said, “On behalf of the good people of Kogi State, I congratulate the Super Eagles of Nigeria for doing Nigerians proud by becoming the first African nation to qualify for the world’s most glamorous football tournament coming up in Russia next year.
“The feat is a clear indication that we are gradually working our way back to the glorious era of dominance of the African continent as a global football giant. The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has rightly paid due attention to sports as a unifying tool for our dear nation.
“The mood is high in Africa’s largest country. Nobody is thinking about where anyone comes from. We are Nigerians and united, we are stronger. We are moving on from this position of strength to preach peace and unity in our dear nation”.
Governor Bello urged the Super Eagles to storm Russia and actualize what no other African nation had done, by “winning the World Cup to prove to the world that the god of soccer is an African”, expressing confidence that the present crops of players in the team “have the talent and experience to achieve the unthinkable in North Eastern Europe”.
He urged the NFF and the technical crew to ensure a well programmed preparation, “technically and mentally” to ensure victory in Russia.
