Kogi State government has concluded arrangement with the World Bank to flag off the construction of 66 rural feeders totalling 500 kilometres across the state.
Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Idris Asiru, disclosed this to reporters in Lokoja yesterday.
Asiru stated that the proposed feeder roads in rural areas are aimed at complementing the diversification drive of the state government.
According to him, the governor held firmly to principle of fairness and equity in the distribution of the selected roads.
He said: โOne of the major thematic areas of this administration is the infrastructural renaissance of both the state capital and the 21 local government areas with the aim of making livelihood easy for inhabitants in the rural areas and bringing cosmopolitan development to the fore.
โThe New Direction agenda of Governor Yahaya Bello-led government is an holistic approach deliberately designed to engender life-touching developmental strides for all Kogites, regardless of the divide.
โThose roads would ease the transportation of agricultural products from farm to market in due time for sale with consequent economic benefit, improved food security and smooth transportation for people in the rural areas.โ
He stressed that the funding for the construction of the feeder roads would come from the World Bank under the Nigeria Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project scheme.
The commissioner, who revealed that Bello will personally flag off the construction, appealed to benefiting communities to provide a conducive atmosphere for the contractors in order to deliver quality work.
Asiru listed the roads to include Iresuah-Checkpoint (2.3km), Ozusi-Ege (5km), Aku-Iresuar (3.2km), Avinebe-Irevure (6.5km), Okuha-Agara-Atami (6.6km), Ebiya- Idebe (1.5km), Adogo-Ffn (16km), Obabara-Upake (24km), Magongo-Ogori (4.8km), Eni-Asoso (10 km), Ugugu-Akonogbolo-Orekete (25km), OlugbemiroโJegede Crescent Road (0.5km), Obeiba Township-Oboroke-Ijove (2.3km), Sen Pius-Farm Centre-Chenya-iku (2.5km), Eika Adagu Farm Centre (2km), Ohuepe-Obangede-Oboroke (6.5km), Iniku-Ege (8.2km), and Ebechi (9.1km).
The World Bank Project Coordinator, Mr. Adams Obansa, said the process for the construction of the roads will commence in 45 days and will be credible and transparent.
