The chairman of Dekina LGA of Kogi State, Hon Mohammed Ali has laud workers in Dekina LGA for their patient, understand and commitment to their responsibilities while assuring them that the current financial challenges will soon be a thing of the past.
The chairman made this known to pressmen while addressing workers in Dekina on the occasion of this year’s May Day celebration.
“Let me first and foremost remind all of us that International Workers’ Day, and as Labour Day in some places, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement and occurs every year on May Day, 1st May.
Let me further say here that Workers are creators of wealth in every field of life. Work is worship therefore, workers are to be celebrated and we should respect them and have parity in our behaviour with them.
In wishing you all a happy celebration of your day and praying that God will spare our lives and when next your day comes, we will all have a better story to tell, let me acknowledge the singular fact that Dekina workers had been wonderful, dedicated and committed both in the discharge of their individual responsibilities, and in collaborating with the executive in the local government to record monumental achievements under my stewardship as the Chairman of the council”.
The chairman said Notwithstanding the dwindling allocations to the council and zero industrial base of the local government which means poor internally-generated revenue, Dekina LGA still better under the current administration. He said “Our administration has not hidden all necessary facts about our finances from labour and we cannot but appreciate your understanding, patient, resilience, tolerance and support in this critical period of economic downtown and financial scarcity. All hope is not lost, as there is a silver lining ahead”.
“The current situation does not affect workers only, it affects all of us. But I am very optimistic that with your continued support and prayers, we will weather the storm because the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is not leaving any stone unturned in his unwavering desire and determination to better the lives of Nigerians. In the same vein, the commitment of Gov Yahaya Bello towards improved workers welfare is unwavering, hence the reason for the current workers’ verification exercise in the state which requires our collective support and cooperation”
