A philanthropist, Dr. Williams Toyin Akanle has reiterated his resolve to give more support to widows, saying the task is a service to God and humanity.
Dr. Akanle made this known while speaking at the 20th Anniversary of Williams James Foundation, a non governmental organization that has been meeting the well being of widows in Makutu-Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi state on Friday.
The philanthropist, who was an Assistant Director General of Department of State Service, said he was moved to cater for wellbeing of widows and less privileged in the society having suffered hunger in the past.
According to him, the Foundation was established in memory of his mother, Late Mama Janet Aina Akanle who died in 2003 at the age of 85 years.
“My Late Mother suffered so much but she never gave up. The hardship was beyond description, the lack unbearable and several times, we did not know where the next meal will come from. However, at such critical and difficult times, her faith kept her going,” he recounted.
He stated that after thinking of the sufferings of his late mother, he observed that other widows will be suffering same, hence the establishment of the Foundation.
He expressed appreciation to those that have supported the Foundation financially, spiritually and morally.
The Guest Preacher, Rev. Olabode David of ECWA Good News, Isanlu said caring for widows is caring for God, saying 20 years of empowering the less privileged is commendable and a step in the right direction.
Rev. David enjoined Nigerians irrespective of their religion to care for widows, urging government in particular to provide better welfare for widows.
He also advised the widows to put their faith in God and avoid immoral acts that could hinder them from eternal life.
The ceremony was attended by the clergymen both within and outside Kogi State.
