The Director of Local Government (DLG) of Lokoja Local Government Council, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar has attributed the attack by the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Lokoja LG Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Suleiman Kinami to her insistence on doing things the right way.
Narrating her ordeals with Kinami, the DLG said: “on a fateful day, Suleiman Kinami came to my office and requested that I should assist him to smuggle his father’s name, who is a retiree of the local government, into the list of the council’s cleared pensioners.
“I told him that it was not possible. I further explained to him that the list is from the Government House and advised that he should tell his father to go through the right channel like other pensioners.
“And since then, he has been threatening me through text messages. I did reported him to his parents who claimed they never sent him any message to me.
The DLG argued that Kinami’s criticism on her leadership style was nothing, but just because she has refused to continue the “business as usual” tradition in the council.
Besides, she described those labeling her as corrupt and inefficient as people simply afraid of the ongoing reform in the council and the state in general.
She also vowed that never again will the government allow the return of the age-long cartel in the local government.
Abubakar, who spoke to journalists in Lokoja on Sunday, assured that the attack notwithstanding, she would continue to push for the transformation agenda of Governor Yahaya Bello in all sectors.
She said Kinami was fighting her in the media “because I have been able to frustrate his efforts in smuggling his father’s name into the already cleared pensioners list sent to the council by the state government.”
“I would not want to join issues with him because he is crying foul that through us the Governor has broken the old order where things are done without coordination.
“What is hurting him is that we have put policies in place where people like him can no longer cheat the government and cause untold hardship for thousands of Kogites.”
According to her, stakeholders in the council that have the interest of Kogi and Kogites at heart need not be afraid of her leadership style, except those that have skeleton in their wardrobe and are scared of change and reforms.
The DLG, who commended the cordial relationship between her and top officials of the council including the staffers explained that it was the harmonious relationship that has brought about the high level successes recorded by the council.
