An Okene-based political organisation, Independent Mandate Group (IMG), said Okene Local Government Area should concede 2015 House of Representatives seat to Ogori/Magongo in the spirit of common good.

The IMG Leader who is a youth activist and a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon Siyaka Joseph, made the advocacy in a press statement he made available to The Graphic in Lokoja last week.

He argued that despite the numerical strength of Okene, ‘’internal oppression, marginalisation and undue advantage of our population should be averted’’ stressing that, “if we must ask for equity from our Igala brothers who stick to the governorship seat because of their size, we must go with clean hands.’’

Hon Joseph, who was also a Special Assistant on Youth Empowerment to immediate past Chairman of Okene Local Government, Hon Yahaya Karaku, appealed to political leaders, traditional rulers, the clergy and other stakeholders ‘’to add voice to our voice to quietly zone the House of Reps position to Ogori/Magongo.’’

The statement explained that although Ogori/Magongo cannot have that opportunity based on their voting strength, “for equity, fairness and justice, it is better for us to give them a chance; especially now that they have only a sole aspirant.’’

It noted that the sole aspirant, Hon Gabriel Abiodun Dauda, a member representing Ogori/Magongo at the State House of Assembly, ‘’has the experience’’ as a humane and friendly lawmaker who can effectively represent the federal constituency.

It further recalled that Hon Daudu’s antecedents as Secretary to Ogori/Magongo Local Government, Chairman of the LG and a lawmaker, had made his name ring bell in the constituency.

The document urged “our brothers from Okene with their aspiration, tall ambitions, to drop their ambitions and support Ogori/Magongo, come 2015.’’

It concluded that the People’s Democratic Party should heed the clarion call to give ‘’victory to democracy, not just in Okene politics but Kogi Central politics.’’

The group also enjoined the All Progressives Congress in the constituency to allow a sole candidate emerge from Ogori/Magongo ‘’if actually the party is out to correct errors, sweep corruption and injustice.’’
