Why Job Opportunities Should Never be Handled With Levity

Opportunities don’t always come twice and how we respond to them often determines our future. I had a firsthand experience that proves why we should never treat job applications with a careless attitude.

One day, my boss Hon. Ozigi Muhammed Tijani, Member Representing Okene/Ogori-Magongo Federal Constituency and Vice Chairman, House Committee on Rural Electrification called and asked me to urgently help source qualified graduates in Electrical Engineering from our constituency for job openings at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

I immediately reached out to our people and while many showed interest, only four met the required qualifications. Their documents were submitted and they were invited for an exam. Sadly, here’s how three of them wasted the opportunity:

  1. Candidate One
I called to inform him about the exam. He checked his email and saw the invite but claimed three days wasn’t enough to travel from Lagos to Abuja. He didn’t show up, and the slot was wasted.
  2. Candidate Two
He claimed he never got the email. After a quick check, it turned out he submitted a CV with an invalid email address. Another slot gone.
  3. Candidate Three
This one actually wrote the exam, passed and was invited for an interview. But he failed to show up for the interview no explanation. That opportunity went down the drain as well.

Only Candidate Four, Engr. IRA, took the process seriously. He followed every step, from the application to the interview and just a few days ago, he received his employment letter from REA. Congratulations once again, Engr. IRA of REA!

THERE ARE SO MANY ONLINE RECRUITMENTS GOING ON – LET’S TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY AND APPLY!

Opportunities don’t always knock twice. Every job vacancy you see online could be your big break but only if you take it seriously. Its only when we aplly for jobs someone can push for us. Let’s act. Update your CV, check your email regularly and apply with intentionality. Time wasted is opportunity wasted.

Don’t be the reason your own chance passed you by.
