For a few years, Ankpa local government area of Kogi state has been struggling with insecurity which has called for much attention and how to put an end to this ugly menace is still unknown. All the leaders seem short of ideas in proffering a lasting solution to the problem.
It is an irony to expect peace and unity in a society where kidnapping and cultism is applauded. A society where the leaders play cards with the future of the youths, giving them fake promises during electioneering periods.
How would you expect peace to reign in a society where there is no love among the youths. In fact, it is increasingly difficult to develop such a society and to worsen it, non residents find such a society a non viable environment for investments.
Lately, Ankpa can not be separated from all forms of ills in the society and some refer to the madness as “modern socialization” by engaging their God given souls in devilish acts. I pray Almighty Allah to distance my soul from such modernization. Amen!
Ankpa has become a pressure cooker of internal conflicts and insecurity that must be addressed urgently. It has been on their lips to address this menace but none has taken the bold step to address it until Hon. Abagwu assumed office as council chairman.
Recently, Hon. Abagwu called for a town hall meeting compromising of politicians, traditional rulers, religious leaders but there has been no positive impact on the situation.
It is noteworthy to state that you can’t provide solutions to a problem without knowing its genesis.
The overall situation that I have encountered in my local government gives rise to the extreme concern with issues like poverty and lack of parental care.
Empowerment scheme seems a viable alternative such that when these youths are engaged, the tendency to get involved in criminal activities become reduced.
Obviously, the leaders only care about themselves and never the masses.
There is a need for a round table discussion to trace the genesis on why youths are behaving abnormally of recent.
To this end, I urge Hon. Abagwu and all stakeholders to prioritize accountability and access to justice for all victims irrespective of their status or position.
Culprits should be punished accordingly and the interest of the common man should be prioritized because when their interests are not preserved, peace in the council will be far-fetched.
