Politics in Igala land has, over the years, taken a troubling direction that should concern every well-meaning son and daughter of the land. Instead of being a platform for development, progress, and collective growth, politics has too often become a business venture driven by hatred, division, greed, and personal ambition.
This dangerous trend is tearing families apart, destroying properties, and costing innocent people their lives.
It is painful to observe that our people sometimes treat politics as a do-or-die affair. Brothers fight against brothers. Friends turn into enemies. Communities are divided along political lines. In some cases, an Igala person is ready to harm or even kill another Igala person just so a stranger can win an election.
This is a tragic contradiction of our cultural values, which are rooted in respect, unity, and communal responsibility.
Even worse, political actors sometimes use other people’s names to instigate violence, creating conflicts that lead to bloodshed among our own people. Properties are destroyed, lives are lost, and families are left in sorrow — all in the name of politics.
This is not leadership. This is not democracy. This is destruction. Politics should be a tool for service, not warfare. It should be about ideas, integrity, and development — not intimidation, hatred, and manipulation.
When politics becomes a business transaction, where votes are bought with peanuts and the future of our youth is sold cheaply, then society is already heading toward ruin. The youth of Igala land must rise and reject this dangerous pattern. We must refuse to be used as instruments of violence. We must stop selling our future for temporary financial gain. No amount of money can replace a lost life, a broken family, or a destroyed community.
We must learn to be our brothers’ keepers. We must promote peace, dialogue, tolerance, and understanding. Political differences should never lead to hatred or violence. Elections will come and go, but Igala land will remain. If we destroy our land today because of politics, what future are we leaving for the next generation?
It is time to change the narrative.
Let us build a new political culture based on respect, unity, and development. Let us support leaders who believe in peace and progress, not those who thrive on division and bloodshed. Let us protect our land, our people, and our future.
Igala land deserves better.
Our people deserve better.
And our youth must lead this change.
