Security Adviser to Kogi State Government, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd) has called on women in the state to speak up when something is not right in their communities.

Speaking at the one-day workshop in Lokoja on Tuesday, Commander Omodara urged women to speak against violence and injustice at home and the communities.

The workshop, with the theme, “building trust for a renewed hope”, was organized for women across Kogi state by the office of the State Security Adviser in collaboration with the Kogi Women Empowerment Coalition (KWEC).

He explained that the workshop was organized to strengthen partnership between government and the grassroots, between security agencies and community women, so that everyone can work hand in hand to make Kogi safer, stronger and more united.

“Let us continue to sensitize one another. Let us look out for our young people who may be tempted by drug abuse or crime. Let us keep speaking against violence in our homes and communities. And let us continue to support one another because when women stand together, no challenge can defeat them

“You are the backbone of peace. You are the torchbearers of hope. And you are the bridge through which trust is built,” he said.

Commander Omodara said the Office of the State Security Adviser is built on a simple belief, that everyone has a role to play in promoting peace and security.

“We know that women are the heart of every home, and the strength of every society. When women are informed, empowered, and organized, communities thrive. But when women are neglected or silenced, insecurity finds space to grow,” he stated with emphasis.

He commended the wife of the State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo for her constant commitment to the welfare of women and young people in Kogi State.

He applauded the First Lady’s laudable programmes targeted women and children.

“Your campaigns against gender-based violence, your fight against drug abuse, and your advocacy for gender equality have continued to inspire confidence and courage in the hearts of many.

“Through your leadership, women in Kogi State now know that their voices matter; that they can stand tall, speak up, and contribute meaningfully to development. You have aligned our efforts here at the State level with national goals on women empowerment and social protection, and for that, we remain truly grateful.”

Earlier, the Regional Coordinator of KWEC, Dame Stella Bola Olobayotan enjoined the women to stand against any form of violence in their localities, saying their support for security Agencies will go a long way to make the State safer

The Guest Speaker at the workshop, Prof. Ehiz Odigie-Okpataku, challenged women in Kogi state to be true champions of worthy causes.
