What Manner Of #NewDirection is This in Kogi? by Balogun Emmanuel

To say the last couple of weeks have been stressful for the average Kogite would frankly be a gross understatement.
Under the New Direction Governor, the illegality that is continually rocking the Kogi assembly leading to the removal of its Speaker, Mr. Momoh Jimoh-Lawal is a flagrant disregard for the supremacy of law and an exaggerated exuberance on the part of lawmakers who are expected to be independent of the Executive following the doctrine of Separation of Powers.

As if the persisting non-payment salary situation and comatose kidnapping activities are not enough to grapple with, Kogites have also had to attempt to wrap their heads around the sacking of legally employed civil servants in the state in the name of weeding out ghost workers. And this is supposed to be the much chanted “NewDirection?”

Only recently, I stumbled on an article. Titled, “Incessant and Dubious Arrests in Ekinrin-Adde, Kogi State:Gradual Slide Towards Anarchy”. Suffice to say that it becomes pertinent at this juncture to engender an anatomical examination of the continuous unwarranted display of executive recklessness and scandalous disregard for human
rights.

This is déjà vu all over again. Every day, it looks more and more as if Kogites have been scammed yet again. While it is true that the financial recklessness and sheer impunity of past governments have played a huge part in the economic challenges Kogi is currently battling and it is commendable that the all what the present government is still busy doing is demolishing of all roundabouts in Lokoja when the state of Kogi roads are death traps and deplorable,
misplaced priority!

Yes, it is still only 3 months into the reign of the #NewDirection government, but by now there should at least be flashes of positive strides to come. So far, the Direction that Kogites have been hoping to see is nowhere near coming to fruition. The vague slogan of “New Direction” is not the Direction a majority of the voting populace anticipated.

Let it not be said that we did not speak when things went wrong. Let it not be said that our voices went dead when the very things we criticised under one government reared its head under another.

The people of Kogi State deserve more than this burden of inept leadership, and it is high time reason prevailed over political rascality.
