Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Emergency, Alhaji Ibrahim Baba Mohammed, has commended National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its response to flood victims.
Baba Mohammed gave the commendation at the distribution of relief items to the victims at the Government House in Lokoja on Tuesday.
He noted that the gesture as shown by NEMA would go along way at reducing the hardship faced by the victims.
The Special Adviser also expressed appreciation to Governor Yahaya Bello for his commitment to flood victims, saying the people will reciprocate his kind gestures at the appropriate time.
“We will ensure the items get to the target beneficiaries. It is not business for anyone, that is why the objective of government must be seen to be actualized,” he said.
He stated that his leadership will ensure transparency and accountability, adding that good governance requires openness.
In a remark, the Chairman of Bassa Local Government who was represented by the Secretary, Yunusa Maihankuri-Gambo said they were impressed with the process and thanked the federal and state governments for living up to their responsibilities.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Haruna Abubakar from Mozum, thanked the federal government for providing the items for flood victims.
Alhaji Haruna, however, urged the federal government to find lasting solution to the annual flooding, noting that such solution should distinguish the present government from the past ones.
