Building of a Modern Trailer Park along Lokoja- Abuja highway has now topped the priority of the Kogi State Government.
The State Governor,Capt Idris Wada, said having the trailer park along the highway has become necessary following the negative impact long trucks and vehicles create when hold up occur on the road citing the recent gridlock that had over 5000 long vehicles trapped on the ever busy Lokoja-Abuja road when it was submerged by water occasioned by the flooding of the River Niger as unimaginable.
Represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, when the State Executive Members of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers paid him a visit,said the grid lock witnessed by motorists and suffering experienced by commuters during the period the flood lasted was not only traumatic an experienced,it has made the State Government to think of ideas towards averting future occurrence.
Capt Wada thanked the NURTW in the State for co-existing peacefully without crisis,lauded their supportive role to his administration.
While promising to partner and to assist enterprises that have genuine concern for the growth of the State,the Governor called on the Union to always comply with existing rules guiding the setting up of Motor Parks and to ensure it cleanliness.
The State Government assured the Union of support in the quest to build a Modern Motor Park adding that a befitting plan and design suitable for the Union will soon be handed over to them.
Earlier in his speech,Samson Fabode,State Secretary of the Union,solicited the State Government support in the building of a motor park in the State Capital for the Union,noting that it will help reduce incidences of having indiscriminate parks in the State Capital.
