Senator Atai Aidoko Ali has appealed to the new resident electoral commissioners‎ to bring to bare their professional experience and knowledge to the electoral body to ensure seamless and acceptable outcome of their exercise.
Aidoko made this remark at INEC headquarters during the inauguration of the first batch of resident commissioners screened by the senate.
Senator Aidoko, who is a member of the Senate committee on INEC, said the success and failure of Nigeria democracy and mass participation depends on the body. He urged them to initiate model programs that will equate the activities of the body to what is obtainable in other countries.
He advised them to be apolitical, transparent,‎ diligent, patriotic and above board. He challenged the body to redouble its efforts on the continuous voters registration (CVR) and the distribution of permanent voters cards (PVC),‎ saying so many people are disenfranchised and discouraged by the cumbersome procedures.
He advised INEC to insulate the entire system from orchestrated and deliberate controversies ‎perpetrated by politicians to derail the body from its statutory obligations, promising a robust oversight function of its activities from the law makers.
