Kogi State Commissioner of Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya MD Farouk says water law will soon be made operational in the state.
Engr. Yahaya made this known in his office while receiving members of the Association of Water Well Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners (AWDROP) in Lokoja.
He said that though the law was in place, there is need to harmonize it with other law towards making it operational and and result oriented.
He commended the body for indicating interest in the provision of portable water across the state, noting that there is hope based on the composition of its membership.
The Commissioner assured them that government would continue to encourage initiatives aimed at moving Kogi State to the next level.
He explained that water governance is key, hence, the need to work in partnership with relevant bodies to attain set objectives in the sector.
Earlier, the National Vice President of AWDROP, Engr. Dayo Opeyemi said they were in Kogi State to hold the seventh annual national conference of the association.
Engr. Dayo, who noted that Kogi state remained the Confluence of Opportunities, said that the hosting of the conference is for strategic reason and urged government to partner with the body for optimum results.
In a remark, Professor Ikoola Okunlola, who is a member of the association, explained that eighty percent of communicable diseases is attributed to lack of portable water.
Professor Okunlola expressed the association’s readiness to provide one hundred units of borehole in each of the twenty one local government areas to mark Governor Usman Ododo’s first one hundred days in office.
