With determination, focus and courage driven by the mission to transform Kogi State, Capt Idris Wada has no doubt succeeded in laying the foundation for a greater Kogi State.
Since his assumption of office three years ago, the present administration has invested greater chunk of the State’s resources in building critical infrastructures and in the transformation of all sectors of the States economy to the benefit of the people.
Working with a blueprint for the development of Kogi State, the last three years has seen the Governor focusing on ensuring stability in developing critical infrastructures across the State.
Capt Wada has also sustained the policy of ensuring good governance which has remained the hallmark of the present administration since it came into office.
The present administration has made appreciable progress in sectors as Agriculture, Infrastructure, Commerce and Industry as well as human capital development.
With deliberate emphasis on probity and accountability, elimination of corruption, complete value re- orientation, the present administration has made good governance a priority.
Aside establishing partnership between Kogi State and major international financial institutions and donor agencies, the government undertook major reforms towards also increasing its internally generated revenue by more than 250% in 2014 alone.
Similarly, the administration undertook the construction of 58 road projects across the State.
The administration need also be commended for its massive investments in education by constructing hostel blocks in KSU, and Kogi state polytechnic.
The administration also renovated some iconic schools such as the GSS Dekina, Holy Rosery Idah, St. Augustine Kabba, Abdulazeez Attah Memorial College Okene amongst others.
Towards developing a viable manpower for the State, the administration has trained 630 teachers, while a vocational training centre with the South Korean Government is on to ensure long and short training in skills acquisition.
The administration has placed the State as number one in Cassava and Rice production. It also has through Agriculture created 4,500 jobs for youths and over 3,500 fishermen/fish farmers in the State. Already through collaboration, a rice and cassava staple crop processing zone has been established in the State.
The present administration has undertaken the construction and resuscitation of over 32 water schemes in different parts of the State as well as drilling of 82 motorized and solar powered bore holes.
The administration has also embarked on the recruitment and training of Engineers, Technicians and Hydrologists to understudy the expatriate Engineers currently managing the Greater Lokoja Water Project.
In this present administration rural development efforts, Capt Idris Wada’s administration has spent over 1 billion Naira in providing motorized boreholes, construction of Primary Health Clinic, classrooms, purchase of Ambulances and water projects as well as feader roads across the 21 Local Government Areas.
With so much investments in the health sector. The administration has provided and upgraded new and existing healthcare facilities across the State.
Similarly, the Government’s huge investment in the youth and women development sub–sector has received tremendous encouragement. The State has also recorded un paralleled peace and security in the State.
The last three years of the Capt Wada’s administration is no doubt an era that will remain indelible in the annuals of the State’s history.
While it is expected that so much more is left to be achieved, but amidst dwindling financial resources, one will not be over–stating the obvious that the Capt Wada’s administration is no doubt one that is for this season and has met the yearning and aspiration of the people.
