Wada Sets Up Committee on WAEC Payment

As part of measures designed to restore sanity and stability to the issue of payment of WAEC examination fees in the state, Kogi State government has inaugurated the WAEC Reconciliation Committee.

The committee has among others Hajia Mariam Ladi Ibrahim (chairperson), Prof. Matthew Ajibero, Mr Joseph Umoru, Mr. Richard Akanmode, Chief Sylvester Onoja while Mr. Ibrahim Odoma is to serve as secretary of the committee.

Performing the ceremony in Lokoja recently, Governor Wada listed the terms of reference of the committee to include: reviewing the current impasse in the payment of WAEC examination fees by Kogi State government, obtain the transition examination result in the past three years with names of candidates, schedules of result from the Ministry of Education.

It is also to convene meeting of principals of secondary schools in the state and obtain the names of SS3 students with them as well as distribute their last WAEC forms directly to principals of public schools at the meeting in order to get accurate information from the schools.

Members of the committee were also mandated to check the forms authenticity by comparing them with their transitional examination results and information and then draw up a list of authentic payment and make refunds via e-payment to the students’ accounts directly or by crossed cheques in the names of the students.

He said the state was determined to block all leakages and find lasting solution to the abuse and confusion that trailed the recent payment of WAEC fees for students in the state.

Responding, the Chairperson of the committee, Hajia Mariam Ladi Ibrahim assured the people that the committee was not out to witch-hunt anybody but to make recommendations as well as chart a better path for the future of Kogi children.
