The Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, has been described as one of the most education-friendly governors in the country, in view of the considerable support the sector has been getting from him since he assumed office.
The Vice Chancellor of Kogi State University, Professor Hassan Isah, who asserted this in an exclusive interview in his office in Anyigba recently, said the current strike action being embarked upon by the Local Cell of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was for no fault of Council, management or government, but that of ASUU itself.
Professor Isah who said the university has enjoyed tremendous support from Kogi State government since the assumption of office of this administration, opined that staff salaries and allowances are being paid as at when due.
He said: “Staff of Kogi State University have never had it this good. As I speak, the governor does not owe us a penny in salaries. In fact, we just got our February salary alerts some days ago without hassles.”
Isah, who pointed out that government was fully committed to staff training and development, stated that there are more than 250 staff of the university undergoing training both within and outside the country for capacity improvement.
He said government is working hard to resolve all backlog of allowances owed the university’s chapter of ASUU in Earned Academic Allowances.
He assured staff of the commitment of the present administration to improve their welfare.
“Council, management and government are not resting on their oars in the efforts to address the issues raised in the recent Earned Academic Allowances computed to government and I am sure that if the governor receives the final vetting from his aides, he would take necessary steps to address the situation,” he explained.
